Lifedrawing

Life Drawing

2 x 5 week courses starting 23 April and 4 June

Tuesday 7-9pm
£63, £57(concs)

The course aims to teach participants to “see” in order to draw. By the end of the course, all students will have the confidence to form A1 size drawings from life using various media (pencil, charcoal, conté crayon) to describe the human body. During the course, all technical aspects of drawing practice will be covered, such as proportion and scale, treatment of light, use of line and tone, anatomy and the use of different drawing materials.

Classes will include reference to drawings from the history of art, along with relevant examples of my own work.

Topics Covered:

Mark-making – mistakes, accidents, mess, try new things, what a humble line can achieve.
Speed up your working – fast is good.
Negative shapes, tone and strong lighting – your friends.
Leave space for your drawings to breathe – give them variation, push-and-pull, don't overwork.
Framing and limiting your subject – limit the composition and get abstract or detailed.
Coloured pens, inks, pencils, coloured paper – multiple drawings layered up.
Exercises – pen stuck to paper, no peeking, stick, share drawings...etc.
Anatomy – as much detail as you like, we’re not medics!

Do I need any previous drawing experience?:

No, none at all - that's why we have a tutor in the class. We also cater for experienced draughtsmen and women, who are also very welcome, and will benefit from the great setup we have at the Cornerstone.
