Our story

The council committed to the idea of opening an art centre after finding out what local people wanted. As a young, vibrant and growing town increasing leisure and entertainments services were priority. Cornerstone is part of a long term development programme for Didcot working towards a bright and brilliant future for the town. Throughout the project the council has worked closely with community groups and individuals, artists, architects, designers and the construction industry to make sure our high quality facilities are accessible to all.

Ellis Williams Architects, designers of the famous Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, have created a unique, contemporary and colourful venue which will embrace all forms of art and performance. Cornerstone stands out as the visual centre piece of the new town square. The venue has a high quality finish thanks to the efforts of Leadbitter Construction who have delivered a beautiful, practical and efficient home for the arts. The name Cornerstone was also generated in consultation with local people, it places the venue at the heart of the community and combines a strong contemporary image with a solid and timeless feel.

The venue comprises of a state of the art auditorium, a visual art gallery, a cafe bar and four beautiful multi purpose spaces for classes, workshops, meetings and entertaining.
